Meet our, as yet, unrenamed dog. The adoption agency was calling her Rusty, but we are trying to decide on a new name.
No. I’m not sure what we were thinking, but I really like her. Those of you who know me in real life know I am adamantly not a dog person for the following reasons a) dog smell b) jumping c) licking d) time commitment e) poop scooping f) barking. For all those reasons, I am still not a fan of most dogs. And I know that she is going to be more of a time commitment than a cat and will require poop scooping, she barely smells, doesn’t really lick or bark and also does not jump. So yes. I have lost my mind and gotten a dog.
Getting new pictures of her was kind of hard because she was a little freaked out by me at first. Matt picked her up from the fosters while I was at work and she made friends with him, but was then suspicious of me when I got home. So I have several pictures of her like this, crouching behind Matt’s office chair.
(Yes, those are some giant nips. She just had puppies about seven weeks ago. But they are all adopted too!)
She warmed up pretty quickly and was adored by neighborhood children on her first walk. She doesn’t know any tricks, but seems smart and was very good around the other neighborhood dogs. The cats so far are not loving her, but are not reacting as badly as we had anticipated. Hopefully they will soon get along.
Playing fetch.

I dunno, has she barfed AND pooped on your carpet in the same day yet? ‘Cause you cats did.
Luckily I grew up with barfy cats and accepted it as part of life on a Saturday morning.
No, but she did barf on Matt in the car after eating all the cats’ food. Soooo, I’m sure she’ll have her own problems
And the cats do not normally do it. Maybe they just wanted to make you feel at home.
On behalf of all cat people, I feel a bit betrayed. Just watch out for Monster and Zim. Cats are pretty damn vindictive.
I know! I never thought I would get a dog, but Matt has talked for a long time about wanting one and she fit the bill soooo… It’s weird, but I’m still a crazy cat lady to the core.
As for the cats, we’re definitely having… fun… while they adjust to each other. But I think they will be okay in time. It’s breaking my heart to see them so upset for the time being though.
I cannot believe my eyes! Clover is said this happened long after we left Ogden, she would’ve loved a friend.
Be prepared to fall absolutely in love with her. I’ve become intrigued by cats lately (my neighbor has them and they make me laugh) but I cannot get used to their disregard for their owners. I think this little girl will be the perfect balance to the cats. Basically I’m saying you’ll have the ideal situation…you’ll get the laughs and quirks from the cats and cuddling and commitment from the dog.
I’m excited to see what her names end up being!
